Jesus Christ - The Early Years
Scripture Reading: Matthew 1 & 2, Luke 1 & 2,
John 1:1 - 17
Memory Verse: John 1:14
Lesson Objective: To help us to know Christ
Jesus more intimately.
Introduction: Paul the Apostle had one
overwhelming, all-consuming desire, that was, to know Christ Jesus!
He wanted others to know Jesus as well.
Paul was not satisfied just knowing about Christ, he wanted to
know Christ, and he wanted others to know Christ in the same way.
Is it just possible, that one hindrance to our being
the witnesses that we want to be, is, that we do not know Christ as we
ought?
Review: On what basis have you yourself
determined that Jesus, the Christ, was born of a virg
I.
The Early Years in Nazareth of Galilee.
1.
Read Luke 2:40 - 52.
Jesus was God in the flesh.
Although He had the nature of God, He developed physically as a human being.
Now, with that in mind, describe what kind of person Jesus was in each of
the categories listed below.
(1)
As an infant.
(2)
As a child.
(3)
As an adolescent.
(4) As
a teenager.
(5) As
a young man.
(6) As
an adult, a carpenter, before entering His ministry.
2.
Read Luke 2:46. What does this tell you about Jesus as a boy?
3.
Read Luke 2:49. What does the reply of Jesus to His mother tell you about
Jesus as a boy?
4.
Compare Luke 2:51 with Hebrews 5:8. How do these verses state the same
truth?
Conclusion: Jesus was the perfect blend.
He was fully human with the nature of God, for He was God in human form.
(See Colossians 2:9) He developed physically as a human.
As a baby He required care.
As a child, He had to learn much including how to sit, stand, and walk. As a
young boy, He ran, jumped, helped with chores, played and laughed.
He did it all as God in human form. He perfectly identified with
humanity, and yet remained sinless.
What a wonderful Savior!
