1. A disciple is one who is becoming like his master. A follower is one who may follow without ever really embracing the master or adhering to his teachings. Judas was a follower and not a disciple.

      (1) The Pharisee was full of religious pride and could not see his spiritual poverty.

       (2) The Publican recognized his true spiritual condition before the Lord

4. Those who are "poor in spirit", recognizing their spiritual poverty and their need of a savior, shall indeed inherit the Kingdom of Heaven.

They will be comforted by the sure and certain knowledge, that having repented of their sins and believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, as their Savior, they are forgiven and are safe and secure in Jesus Christ and their continuing spiritual growth through Bible study, personal prayer life and discipleship!

IV.

1. Blessed are those who are of a quiet and gentle spirit, who exhibit the characteristics of the Lord Jesus, and seek not to avenge themselves of wrongs and who submit their spirit to the control of the Holy Spirit, for they shall rule and reign with Christ and know the peace of God in this life.

2. Those who have been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb will rule and reign with the Lord Jesus Christ in the millennium kingdom, and beyond in the new earth throughout all of eternity. The man who can control his own spirit, the passions of his emotions, is strong in the areas where it really counts. Even stronger than one who can conquer a city. For a spirit can only be conquered by submitting one’s spirit to the Lordship of the Lord Jesus Christ.

3. The man that controls his anger, thus controlling his emotions and actions, exemplifies the characteristics of the meek. His emotions, actions and attitudes are brought under the Lordship of the Lord Jesus Christ.

4. The man who its not empowered by the Holy Spirit to maintain control over his own spirit is like a city with the walls broken down, meaning that the enemy can come in at will and assail him

V. After reading Psalm 119 and Psalms 42.1

1. To thirst after righteousness is to thirst after the righteousness of God as one who is about to expire from lack of water.

2. The evidence that one hungers and thirsts after righteousness is their ongoing recognition of their spiritual poverty, their need of Christ, seeking to better understand God through
    the scriptures, and an ongoing life of prayer, supplication, and meditation on those things which they have read in the scriptures.

3. To "hunger" for the righteousness of the Lord Jesus as one who is starving to death would hunger for food.

4. To thirst after righteousness is to desire the "righteousness of the Lord Jesus Christ as a dehydrated man dying of thirst would desire a drink of water.

5. That one spends time with the Lord Jesus Christ in prayer and the Word, meditating on the word, and sharing their hearts with the Lord. That one seeks to apply that which they
    have read and meditated on in the Word in their lives. They desire to be Christlike above all else.

 7.He phimromises that those who hunger and thirst after righteousness will be satisfied!

    8. Through faith in His word, and obedience to His word.  Through simple childlike faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, by ongoing intimate fellowship with Him, through prayer and study  of His Word and obedience to His Word.
