Answer Key

The Last Hours - Part 2

1.             At the arrest of Jesus it was fear that prompted Peter to both desert and to deny Jesus..

      (1)           Subjective.

2.             Pilates greatest weakness was fear and lack of inner strength to do what he knew was right.  Political Correctness was in play here.

3.             As one thief received Christ, so does a segment of mankind.  As one thief rejected Christ, so does a segment of mankind.

4.             That at death, the one who has placed their faith in Jesus Christ is immediately in heaven.  Those who die without Christ, are immediately in hell.  There is no purgatory, no
   second chance.  (See Luke 16:19 - 26)

5.             In Leviticus Chapter 16 where we read of the great day of atonement, we find the sacrificial animals, sinless as they were, being offered for the sins of the people. They
   were
sinless but not willing sacrifices. In Hebrews Chapter 9, we find the fulfillment of that great day of atonement when He, Jesus, the sinless and willing Son of God
gave Himself as a sacrifice for the sinner.  In both instances the sinless dies for the sinful.  That is what is occurring in Luke 23:45, the sinless Son of God is turned over
for death on behalf of the sinful, for those who will believe in Him and receive Him as Savior.

6.             In that excruciating time on the cross, in which Christ was becoming sin for all who would believe in Him, God could not look upon Him in that sinful condition.  He hung
there, taking upon Himself the sins of all who would believe in Him and in so doing, was cut off and estranged in His fellowship with God the Father.  It is by believing in
Him who bore our sins on the cross, that our sins are put to death, and we are then made
the righteousness of God, in Christ Jesus.

7.             In John 10:14-18, Jesus affirms that no man is taking His life from Him, but as an act of His own free will, He is laying His own life down, knowing that He has the power
to take it up again.  In Luke 23:46, He simply willed Himself to death, laying down His life voluntarily, for each and every one that would trust in Him and believe in Him.

8.             The Centurion was accustomed to seeing men die by crucifixion.  He saw the Lord Jesus Christ, will Himself to death, and heard Him commend His spirit to the Father.

He had never witnessed such a crucifixion before and knew that he had just been a part of something in the supernatural that he did not understand.
