Lesson Objective: To better understand the Fruit of the Holy Spirit.

Introduction: The Holy Spirit as the Third Person of the Trinity (God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit) has been involved in the works of God from eternity past and will continue to be involved throughout eternity future.

In this lesson we examine the Fruit of the Spirit - - those characteristics of God that are developed in the life of the Believer, by and through the indwelling presence and work of the Holy Spirit.

II.        Describing and Defining the Fruit of the Holy Spirit.

1.         Love.  There are three kinds of love.

(1) Philo - love such as one may have for a friend.

(2) Eros - a form of erotic, lustful desire, and;

(3) Agape - a pure, non-manipulative, God-type of love.

(4) In your own words, describe the type of love you feel the Holy Spirit imparts to the human heart, and - what will be the result of that fruit of the Spirit in the life of the Believer?  (See John 3:14 - 18)

2.         Explain the difference between joy and happiness.

3.         Define peace as it relates to John 14:27.

4.         How is the fruit of longsuffering, (patience) developed.  (See James 1:2 - 4 and, I Peter 4:12 - 13).

5.         Define gentleness as it relates to Colossians 3:12 and Isaiah 42:2-3.

6.         In your own words define goodness.

7.         What does Hebrews 11:1-6 say about faith?

8.         Jesus used the word meek to describe Himself in Matthew 11:29 and 21:5.  What do you think He meant by that statement?

9.         Define temperance as it is used in II Peter 1:5-8.

III.       Fruit Production in the Life of the Believer.

The Fruit of the Holy Spirit cannot be developed in the life of the Believer by self-effort. It is produced in the life of the Believer by the Holy Spirit.

1.  Read Romans 8:28, and in your own words describe how this verse relates to the production of the Fruit of the Holy Spirit in the life of the Believer.

2.  In your opinion, based on your reading of the scriptures, and with a better understanding of the Fruit of the Holy Spirit, how much of the Fruit of the Spirit do you feel is evident in your life?

(You might want to consider those areas where you think the Fruit is evident in your life, as well as that Fruit that is not yet very evident in your life in your answer.)
