The Holy Spirit - (His Emblems)
Scripture Reading: Acts 1:1 - 3:26
Memory Verse: Acts 1:8
Lesson Objective: To learn more about the Holy Spirit and His emblems.
Introduction: The Holy Spirit is the third member of the Trinity. He is co-equal with God the Father, and God, the Son (Jesus). He is not an "it" or some impersonal "force", He is God.
As a member of the Trinity that comprises God, the Holy Spirit has always been involved in that which God has done. He is involved in all that God is presently doing. And He will always be involved in that which God does in the future. He has always existed from eternity past, and will exist throughout all eternity future.
I. The Emblems of the Holy Spirit.
In anointing Holy
men of old in writing the Bible, the Holy Spirit used physical terms many times
to convey spiritual truths. For example, the spiritual reality of the
conversion experience - being translated out of the Kingdom of Darkness into
the Kingdom of Light - is given a spiritual term, i.e., being "Born Again".
He also used physical terms to illustrate His own ministry. He used
symbolic language to describe Himself and some of His functions. We call
these symbols, "emblems".
