The Doctrine of God - Part 2

Scripture Reading: The Gospel of Luke, and John, Chapter Eleven

Memory Verses: Genesis 1:26 and John 11:35

Lesson Objective: To identify emotions that we share with our Heavenly Father.

Introduction: As we continue our study of the Doctrine of God, we will discover that God, our
Heavenly Father has emotions.  Because man was created in the image of God, that is, having
many of the characteristics of God but lacking the fulness of those characteristics, man too has
emotions.

We need to discover the truths concerning God's essence, His attributes and characteristics so that we
can better understand our Heavenly Father.  Upon completion of this study Genesis 1:26 and
Psalms 8:4-6 will be more meaningful to you than ever before.

I. The Doctrine of God - His Emotions

1.    In Genesis 1:26, we find that God created us in His own "image."  In other words, there are
similarities in man and God. Both have emotions.

2.    From the Scriptures listed below, list the emotions you find revealed in the life of God, which you find in your own life as well!

John 3:16

Zephaniah 3:17

Exodus 20:5

Proverbs 6:16

Mark 14:34

Zechariah 1:2

I Thess 5:23

Isaiah 53:3

III. The Doctrine of God in the Trinity - His Tri-Part Being

In Genesis 1:26, God speaks and says, "Let us make man in our image." If we properly understand "Us" to mean, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost, and, we know from scriptures that the Godhead is composed of three persons (as just listed), then, we come to the conclusion that although the Godhead does consist of three separate persons, each has a distinct role. And, the Three are One with respect to all that they have done, are doing, or are going to do.

With that thought in mind, in your words, describe that same spiritual principle using language
and symbols that are familiar to us today.  That is to say, what can you think of that we
encounter in every day life that while it is one, can reveal itself, or express itself in three
different expressons?

IV.     In your own words, based on your reading of the scriptures, briefly describe your
understanding of each of the Three Persons of the Godhead in:

1.       Creation:

2.      Redemption:

Conclusion:  Hopefully you are now getting a better understanding of your Heavenly Father, and
how much like you, He is, and how much like Him, you are.  May God bless you as
you continue your seeking to know Him better. Amen
