The Holy Spirit - (His Emblems)

 

 

1.    In Acts 1:8 Jesus promised His disciples that they would "receive power" after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me 
       both in Jerusalem, and in Judea, and in Samaria and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

   Describe three things that happened in Acts 2:1-11.

        (1) There was a sound of a rushinmg wind! 

        (2) Tongues, like as of fire sat upon each of them in the upper room and they were filled with the Holy Ghost
 
        (3) They began to declare the mighty works of God, (as bold witnesses) in languages they did not know!


3.     In what two physical forms (emblems) did the Holy Spirit manifest Himself to the believers in the     
        upper room at Pentecost?

        (1)
Wind which speaks of His power, invisibility

        (2) Fire which speaks of His ministry of purification in which believers are cleansed through conviction of sin to the point of confession and repentance.

4.     Acts 2:1-4 is fulfillment of prophecy by John the Baptist in Luke 3:16-17.

5.     Subjective answer with each student having to relate how the Holy Spirit has worked in their life.

6.    Jesus likened the Holy Spirit to Wind which speaks of His

        (1)  Invisibility 

        (2)  Power

       (3)  His individuality as a conscious, thinking, third member of the triune Godhead!

7. One can hear the wind, but cannot see the wind, and we can see the results of wind as it moves where it chooses.

8.   Your answers should reflect the following truths.  

        (1) Oil, anointing oil

        (2) Ability to heal, as a sweet smelling fragrance

9.    Your answers should contain the following truths.

        (1)  Luke 4:18 speaks of the Holy Spirit as a Person!

        (2)  John 1:29-34 reveals that, after one has heard the gospel and believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, of whom the gospel speaks, then the Believer is sealed
              with the Holy Spirit  and the Holy Spirit is the initial deposit of the rest of the inheritance that belongs to the Believer by virtue of their having been saved.

10.    Ephesians 1:13-14 reveals:

         (1) The Spirit descending like a dove.

         (2)  And that He comes as a loving, non-harmful gentle expression of the love of God.

11.    John 1:29-34 reveals that:

          (1)  John saw the Holy Spirit descending as a dove and alighting upon Jesus, which attested to the fact that Jesus was the
                Son of God - the Messiah

           (2)   And that He, the Holy Spirit comes as a loving, non-harmful gentle expression of the love of God!

12.       From the scriptures you have read, you were to list the six emblems of the Holy Spirit as revealed in those scriptures.

           (1) Wind - John 3:8

           (2) Fire - Acts 2:3

            (3) Water - John 7:38 - 39

            (4) Oil - (For light - Exodus 27:20; Lev. 24:1) (For anointing - Exodus 30:31; 37:29)

            (5) Dove - Matthew 3:1

           (6) Seal - Ephesians 1:13; 4:30
