The Doctrine of God - Part 1

God is a Spirit (John 4:24) and it is impossible to paint a portrait of a spirit. Secondly, God is light (I John 1:5). Light contains a multiple of colors, so we conclude that it would be impossible to paint a portrait of God.

This is a subjective answer and will be answered from the perspective of the student. However, from a biblical point of view, God is not only a God of love, mercy, and grace, but He is also a God of justice. He is all powerful, all knowing and totally sovereign. He is omnipresent, omnipotent and omniscient, that is to say He is everywhere present at all times, He has all knowledge at all times, and He is all powerful at all times.

This would be a subjective answer from the perspective of the student. However, we know that light dispels darkness and light symbolized brightness

I. The Doctrine of God - the Reality of His Existence.

1.  Psalm 19:1-4 Creation itself speaks to the existence of God. Even if one were naive enough to try to subscribe to a "big bang theory", one would still need to explain the existence of gaseous substances and the source of the spark that ignited the "big bang". No, all of creation speaks to the existence of God.

2. Psalm 8:1-9 - Again, the creation of the universe, as well as the earth demands an acceptance of the reality that God exists. His creation of man does the same. That which is created is never greater than the creator.

3. Hebrews 11:1-4 - We accept by faith God’s word that He is, and the proof that He is, is exhibited in all of creation. It is understood that the unsaved person has difficulty with this, for the word of God tells us in I Corinthians 2:14 - "But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned."

4. Hebrews 11:1-6 - One cannot please God without faith, therefore it takes faith in God, which is received when one receives Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior, thereby enabling them to receive the Word of God for what it is - The Word of God.

II.  On what basis have you yourself determined that God in fact exist?

1.    I Corinthians 6:19-20 - Because when one is saved, they are indwelt by the Holy Spirit of God, (Ephesians 1:13) and their body becomes the temple of the Holy Spirit and thereby enables us to have the witness of the Spirit Himself, that we are the children of God (Romans 8:16).

2.  John 14:16-17 - These verses remind us that we are in fact, indwelt by the Spirit of God, the Spirit of Truth, which those who are unsaved cannot receive. Only those who have been Born Again can receive the indwelling Holy Spirit.

3. John 16:3 - Again, the witness of the indwelling Holy Spirit who guides and leads us into truth concerning God, Jesus Christ, and all things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.

4. Philippians 1:6 - In this verse we are informed that God began the work in us, is presently dwelling with each and every believer and will continue the work that He has begun until we are received unto the Lord Jesus Christ.

5. Philippians 2:13 - It is God who places His desires in our hearts and then enables us and empowers us to fulfill those desires. Not only is this true with respect to everyday affairs of life, our vocations, and ministries, but He even changes the desires of the heart. Therefore, we find that "old things are passing away and all things are "becoming new" (II Corinthians 5:17).

 6. Simply by taking the Word of God and its record of God’s eternal past, His present existence, and His future existence throughout all eternity. We receive this on the basis of God’s word and the witness of His Spirit within our spirit.

 7. First Corinthians 2:12-14 assures the Believer that the Spirit of the Living God indwells in us, reveals the truth of His word to us, and affirms us in our faith

Conclusion: God Is!!! God always has been!!! God always will be!!!

The Bible makes a very clear and definite statement concerning those who say “There is no God”.

Psalms 14:1 “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.”
