Born Again

 

Memory Verse:  John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

 

Intro: Now that you have been born again and have become and are increasingly becoming a New Creation let us examine more carefully the love that God, our Heavenly Father revealed for you in His sacrifice for your sins

 

Make no mistake about it, while God’s gift of salvation to you was free, it cost God the life of His only Son, Jesus, The Christ, The Messiah!

 

Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

 

Note that in your memory verse for this lesson, John the Baptist spoke of Jesus, saying: Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

 

Someone may wonder why John referred to Jesus as the Lamb of God.

 

 When you read Genesis Chapter Three, you discover that when our first parents sinned against the known will and word of God - in order to cover their sin, God Himself performed the first blood sacrifice for sin.

 

We cannot say with certainty what kind of animal skins God used to clothe Adam and Eve, (see Genesis 3:21) but, we can determine Gods requirements for the Passover Lamb as described in Exodus 12:5.

 

Ex 12:5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats: To be without blemish meant it had to be free of any defect of any kind, symbolic of sinlessness.

 

Given what we know about Gods requirements for a blood sacrifice after Adam and Eve sinned, and the knowledge that their sons, Cain and Able had been taught about the  blood sacrifice It is understood that God transferred the sin of Adam and Eve to an innocent animal, and killed that animal.    

 

Why?  We find the answer in Hebrews 9:22.

 

Heb 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

 

 

To better understand Jesus as the Lamb of God, keep in mind that sin has to be put to death.

 

Lets think of it this way!  God does not so much forgive sin as He forgives the sinner!

 

But, in order for the sinner to be forgiven, the sins of the sinner must be put to death!

 

Therefore, when God killed the animal in the Garden of Eden, He transferred the sins of Adam and Eve to the animal, and then killed the animal.

 

Thereby, the sins of Adam and Eve were put to death in the animal.

 

We discover there are two requirements for the ultimate sacrifice for the sins of mankind.

 

(1)       It must be both a sinless sacrifice.

 

(2)       It must be a willing sacrifice.

 

God transferred the sins of Adam and Eve to the animal, therefore, when the animal died, their sin was put to death in the animal.

 

The animal that God sacrificed in the Garden of Eden was sinless in that animals cannot sin,

 

However, it was not a willing sacrifice, it was a vicarious sacrifice pending the death of Christ Jesus on the Cross which was God’s ultimate sacrifice for sin.

 

Jesus Christ was both! He was (1) sinless, and He was (2) willing to have the sins of all who would in faith trust Him, believe in Him, and willingly receive Him as their Lord and Savior, have their sins transferred to Him - and die in Him - when He died on the Cross.

 

2Co 5:21 For he (that’s God) hath made him (that’s Jesus) to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

 

II.        Blood Sacrifices in the Old Testament!

 

1.                     In the Old Testament when an individual sinned, he brought his sin offering” to the Priest, and laid his hands on the sacrificial animal pressing down a thereby placing his weight on the sacrificial animal while confessing his sin(s).

 

In so doing, the sin(s) were transferred to the animal, then, the sinner had to kill the animal being offered as a sacrifice for their sin(s).

 

The blood was caught by a Priest, who dipped his finger in the blood, and applied blood to the four horns of the Altar of Burnt Offering, and the rest of the blood was poured out at the base of the Altar of Burn Offering.  (See Leviticus 4:27 - 35).

 

2.        That explains why John the Baptist referred to Jesus Christ as the “Lamb of God” that taketh away the sin of the world.

 

III.       Now, with the information you have been given, complete the following.

 

1.        In your own words, explain your understanding of John 3:16 as it applies to you personally.

 

2.        In your own words, after reading the third chapter of Genesis, explain your understanding of Genesis 3:21.

 

3.        In your own words, explain your understanding of Hebrews 9:22.

 

4.        In your own words, explain your understanding of 2 Corinthians 5:21.

 

5.        In your own words, explain your understanding of how Leviticus 4:27 – 35 applies to Hebrews 4:15 as they both relate to the Lord Jesus Christ!

 

Conclusion: As a result of this study, you should better understand why there had to be a sin offering and that blood had to be shed for the sinners sin(s), that the sin offering had to be both (1) sinless and (2) willing, and, how the Lord Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God fulfilled God’s requirements as a sin offering as the Lamb of God!
