Jesus Christ The Early Years - In Ministry
I. As to the Baptism of Jesus.
1. The priest were washed in water upon entering the priesthood. This was in
keeping with the ceremonial law. Thus, our High Priest, Jesus,
    submitted Himself
to the ceremonial washing, not that he had any sin, but, that he fulfilled every
point of the law.
2. Both John and Peter recognized their own unworthiness, and the total
worthiness and superiority of Jesus.
3. In the process of baptizing Jesus, by which Jesus fulfilled the ceremonial
law of the priesthood, in which the priest were washed in water prior
    to
entering into their duties, John also saw the spirit of God descending and
alighting upon Jesus, thus confirming what he had been told, i.e. that,
    upon the
one whom he saw the Spirit descending and remaining, the same one would be the
one that would baptize with the Holy Ghost.
II. As to the temptation of Jesus.
1. That even as Jesus was sorely tested and tempted of the evil one after he
entered into His missions of ministry, in like manner, after we have come to
Christ, and are entering into our walk with Him, we too will be tested and
tempted.
2. He was led by the Spirit of God into the wilderness for the express purpose
of being tested and tempted. God will not tempt us, (James 1:13) but,
    He will
allow us to be tempted. On one side of the trial, it is a
temptation from Satan,
on the other side the trial, it is a time of testing.
3. Satan knew that Jesus was hungry. He watched Jesus and decide to tempt Jesus
along the line of a known need. Satan will tempt each of us along
    lines that he
thinks might be most successful. Failing there, he has to seek other areas in
which to tempt us.
4. He was using Scripture against Jesus, the Word of God, trying to entice Jesus
into following his suggestion to jump-start His ministry. I have
    wondered if
Satan knew, beyond any doubt, at this time, if Jesus was the promised missile or
not. In any event, Jesus successfully withstood
    each and every suggestion by
replying from the Word.
5. Jesus did not refute the claim of Satan that he could provide people with
position, power and possessions. The Bible refers to Satan as the god of
    this
world. (2Cor4:4). However, we must always bear in mind that God has Satan on a
leash so to speak, i.e., in his persecution of Job. Likewise
bear in mind that Jesus completely defeated Satan at the
cross and in His resurrection.
6. The most effective weapon one can use again Satan and his suggestions
(temptations) is the Sword of the Spirit, i.e., the Word of God!
7. After you have survived a stormy period of temptation, and Satan has been
defeated at that time in your life, he will return, time and time again
    to tempt
you. Remember, it is not Satan himself who tries to tempt you, but, the unclean
spirits that are assigned to attack you. This process will
    continue until you
die. However, with every battle you win, you grow stronger in the Lord.
8. You are both protected and provided for by your Heavenly Father. Between the
Holy Spirit who indwells every believer, and the Angels, who are
    themselves
ministering spirits, you are well protected with provision for every need.
