Jesus As God - Part 1

Scripture Reading:  John Chapters 1 and 10, Hebrews 1:1 -3 and 9:1-28

Memory Verse: John 10:30

Lesson Objective: To better understand Jesus as God in the flesh.

Introduction: In our previous studies we discovered how much like Himself God made man. We are attempting to better understand our Creator, our Heavenly Father so that we can better relate to Him.

To better understand God, one needs to better understand Jesus, The Christ. Jesus was God in the flesh. God took upon Himself the form of man, utilizing the human body which He Himself had designed and created. He brought with Him into that human body the Spirit and the nature of Himself - God!  Jesus, The Christ was on earth as the God-man -- fully God, yet fully human.

God has always existed in three persons: (1) God the Father, (2) God the Son and (3) God the Holy Spirit.

We have difficulty understanding how God can be "three in one", how He, God can exist and express Himself in three different forms.  But then, we understand that we can place water in a container over a flame, heat it, have it become steam and pass it through a condensation tube into a container that is being cooled to a freezing temperature and it becomes ice.  Three difference manifestations of the same substance.

For that matter, how does a black cow, eat green grass and give white milk and yellow butter? Isn't God amazing!

1. In your own words, explain your understanding of John 1:1

2. In reading Luke 1:26-37, explain in your own words verse 35

3. Romans 1:3 speaks of the humanity of Jesus Christ.  In your opinion, what does the term, "...which
was made of the seed of David according to the flesh" mean?

4. After reading John 4:1-42, describe how that narrative speaks to the humanity of Jesus Christ.

5. After reading John 19:11-42 list those characteristics that you found that reveal the humanity of
    Jesus Christ.

Conclusion:
Jesus is God! Understanding the Deity of Jesus Christ is essential to a better understanding of God the Father, and the finished work of Jesus in His death, burial and resurrection.  It will also help you to understand your relationship to your Hevenly Father, through His Son, Jesus, The Christ.

Jesus was also fully human.  He existed in a physical body on this physical earth in a period of historical time.  He experienced human emotions and human sufferings.

Again, understanding the hunanity of Jesus is essential to understanding the price He paid for our sins - the shedding of His blood as He became "The Perfect Sinless and Willing Blood Sacrifice" for our sins that God the Father required.
